Why would a 98 ford escort sputter when accelerating?

About 3 months I had a new engine put into my 98 ford escort. Since then it's been sputtering on and off while accelerating, before it would only sputter in the morning when I first started driving. But today it sputter on and off all day, especially when accelerating and occasionally at stop lights. I'm wondering if it just needs a tune up or if its the fuel pump. What do u think? Why would a 98 ford escort sputter when accelerating?try checking for trouble codes, it could be plugs, wires or sensors..

check your tank, it could have some water in the bottom..

I find on mine it helps to run a tank of premium through it to clean things up..Why would a 98 ford escort sputter when accelerating? If the engine sputters every time you press down on the accelerator, it could be your ignition advance system. Your ignition timing is supposed to advance quite a bit when you step down on it. That way the engine can handle the extra gas without flooding out.

You could put a timing light on it and mark the harmonic balancer and watch it as someone presses on the accelerator. You should see your mark advance quite a bit. If not, then it's your ignition advance system. Why would a 98 ford escort sputter when accelerating?it is in the carb or intake air valve on fuel injected cars the warm up on it is suppose to adjust the air and fuel ratio or basically the chock on a car is out of adjustment or not working a vacuum hose could be broke and causing to not work since generally it is controlled by vacuum
