First off, I was a huge Lady Gaga fan a little while back. I still like her (kind of), so I'm not bashing. I really enjoy her music, mainly the stuff she released before "Born This Way"; it was catchy and extremely refreshing compared to what was out at the time that she was getting established.
However, I started slowly getting turned off of her music when she started trying to label what she was doing as significant and 'deep'. For example, recently (to my immense chagrin) my friend pointed out to me that 'Alejandro' is supposed to be a song about gays in the military. Listening to the song, how is it possible that anyone get that meaning from that song? Or that Telephone is about her being on drugs?
I'm just at the point now that I just wish she'd be honest and admit that what she does is not avant guard or deep; it's catchy, pop music. Everyone (incl. Me) would STILL enjoy it. Does she finish her album and then add arbitrary meanings later on?
Does anyone agree with me? If not could you please explain to me how anyone could listen to Alejandro, take their headphones of and say "Yup, gays in the military. Definitely."Lady Gaga's music doesn't REALLY mean all the things she says it does, does it?
To me, there is only one interpretation of all her songs: Lady Gaga likes to provoke. Perhaps, everyday she wonders, 'Who next can I make angry about my songs or my look?'
Perhaps she said to herself, 'Today, I want to anger God and Jesus' when she wrote Judas.
Just because it's not YOUR first thought doesn't mean she didn't write it about it.
Everyone interprets lyrics differently.
edit: also, where are you getting the drugs thing for Telephone? I've never heard of that. Telephone was about fear of suffocation.
edit2: why not? everyone interprets things differently.Lady Gaga's music doesn't REALLY mean all the things she says it does, does it?
no, no, no, you have misunderstood the whole thing. All these modern day ''pop'' is nothing but a bunch o' meaningless crap. todays pop industry is making billions of o' these pop stars, and the ones who get snapped up are the so called ''Suckers''. one of the biggest causes of this is that they Overcommercialise themselves, which is drenching all the chances of an actually TALENTED band/artist stepping into the light.
She might well write them with those meanings. No, you might not get that from listening to it, but some songs you would never guess their meanings if you weren't told first. Yes it's abstract but that doesn't mean she's lying.Lady Gaga's music doesn't REALLY mean all the things she says it does, does it?
not finding gay stuff in gaga's music is like
not finding anything sexual in "right there - Nicole Scherzinger"
One of the many reasons i dont listen to main-stream meaningless garbage noise.
When I write songs about Satan. Usually I'm talking about my mother.
Telephone isn't about her being on drugs?
Tyler is partly true to his word but Lady Gaga did it to make a name for herself. Lady Gaga does have talent and what most people do not realize is that some of these mainstream pop artists are really talented...they just play pop music which obviously isn't some people's style *cough*.
Here's Lady Gaga when she still went by the name Stefani Germanotta:

The Used plays rock, but you'd be amazed what they can do on piano.
Zakk Wylde, he plays some wild **** like his name insinuates...but he can play many other instruments too in many different styles.
Jimmy Hendrix...do i need to say anything? He also studied R%26amp;B.
Dave Grohl...frontman of foo fighters..also plays drums and learned by smacking pillows.
cmon guys, you believe everything you see.......go educate yourselves.
that's right...she went to school for music....you fools. She does have talent (i hate the word talent).
