How do you think cds would be doing without digital downloads?

heres my point of view from artists:

lets use lady gaga debut as an example and we'll use katy perry, kesha, beyonce, britney spears, rihanna and adele as examples and heres gaga first:

the fame right now is at 4.3 million and her two biggest songs just dance and poker face have had 6 million digital copies. so without digital downloads the fame would sell like around maybe 7-8 million cds.

lets the fame monster also its right now selling 1.5 million and her biggest song is bad romance and its right now selling 4.9 million digital copies. so it would sell like around 5-6 million cds.

the final lady gaga example is born this way. the title track sold 3.2 million digital copies. the album would be selling right around 4-5 million at the moment and instead of like selling 1.9 million copies. and in her debut she would've sold maybe 1.5 million in the first week instead of like 1.1 million estimating but 1.1 is still incredible!!

now lets go with katy perry:

her debut one of the boys is selling around 1.4 million right now. her two big songs i kissed a girl and hot n cold were monster hits. those two sold around 4.1 and 5 million even though hot n cold was a bigger success. so her debut would be around between 5-6 million.

her massive 2nd album teenage dream is selling around 2 million and for that kind of success of having 5 no.1's she should be selling right around 7-8 million kind of similar to michael jackson's bad as to what he sold for that record of no.1's he had. right now katy's biggest songs from that album is california gurls and firework which sold 5 million digital copies. so like i said before the album would be selling like 7-8 million.

kesha (kind of feel that her 15 mins of fame is almost up):

her debut animal sold 1.2 million and her big song tik tok has sold 6 million digital copies so her debut would sell around 7-8 million due to that song.

her 2nd album cannibal is flopping only has gone gold right now aka only selling 500,000 copies. her biggest song from that album is we r who we r which is selling around 3.3 million digital copies so her album would sell around 4-5 million but maybe wont meet similar success to her debut.

beyonce:

her i am sasha fierce album selling right around 2.9 million copies and her biggest song is all the single ladies which sold over 4.7 million digital copies. so the album would be selling around 6-7 million.

and her current album 4 is selling like 863,000 copies and both run the world girls and the best thing i never had have gone gold selling 500,000 digital copies so maybe its selling right around right because her songs she's released havent met similar success to her other singles.

britney spears:

her comeback album circus is selling around 1.9 million copies. her biggest songs womanizer sold 3.2 million digital copies and the title track sold 2.8 million digital copies. so her album would sell around 4-5 million copies.

her current album femme fatale is selling around 740,000 copies right now. her songs have all gone platinum but til the world ends has gone 2 million digital copies. so her album would sell around 3-4 million copies.

rihanna:

her good girl gone bad album has sold 2.7 million copies and her songs umbrella, disturbia and please dont stop the music all sold 3 million digital copies so the album would sell around 4-5 million.

her rated r album has gone platinum so far and her big song from the album rude boy went 2 million digital copies and the album would be selling around 2-3 million.

her current album loud has so far sold 1.5 million copies and her biggest songs only girl in the world and whats my name have sold 3 million digital copies so the album would be selling around 4-5 million.

adele:

her debut 19 has sold platinum and her song chasing pavements also went platinum and considering how adele is doing with her commercial success so she'd be selling 2 million.

her big album thats out 21 is doing great 4.1 million copies right now and her monster songs rolling in the deep is selling 5.3 million digital copies and someone like you is selling 2.4 million and if cds would sell really well she'd be selling around 7-8 million.

what do i think about how these artists would be doing without digital downloads? How do you think cds would be doing without digital downloads?
I think you are very right, without Digital Downloads, CDs would be selling much much more.

But you also have to think about more artists than mainstream pop like Katy Perry and Ke$ha. I would guarantee you that another main reason people download singles from people like them is because they want just that one song that always plays on the radio, and not the rest of them.

Artists like Pearl Jam, Iron Maiden, Iced Earth, Judas Priest, Opeth, ect, will always sell CD albums as a whole as much or more than Digital Download singles in my opinion, because the fans of those bands are generally committed to that band and genre. When you get into rock, metal, and the various forms of Metal specifically, you will find that their fan base is much MUCH more dedicated to the artists, and will not only buy the albums but buy t-shirts, concert tickets, ect.

I see people buy Pearl Jam, and Iced Earth (just examples) albums and walk around in their T-Shirts all the time, but I've yet to see a single person buy a mainstream pop artists album or shirt.

I think it really really depends on the Artist, and their genre and fan base.
Well considering I'd rather plug up my ipod to my 2 foot wal speakers instead of putting in a cd with only 10 songs... digital. You never loose them either. How do you think cds would be doing without digital downloads?
tl;dr
I have never downloaded a song in my life and I don't see myself ever doing it . If I like the band I buy the cd and listen to the whole cd . Downloading has put a lot of recoed shops out of business , which is sad but its the way of the world these days . I enjoyed going to Tower Records on a holiday when every other place was closed . I enjoyed thumbing thru the cd's . I don't like any new bands that are out there , I like old stuff like Sabbath , MSG , UFO , Thin Lizzy etc , so when they remaster the old stuff I grab it , the sound quality is amazing . You don't get good sound quality with a download .How do you think cds would be doing without digital downloads?
I would like to know who these people are that actually support Adele, Beyonce, Rihanna, Katy Perry etc... come on what happened to good music like Soundgarden and Metallica? Different argument, but if these artists put out really good albums people will buy them. I usually listen to 2 or 3 songs before I buy so il know if I like it enough to buy it... and with most music that comes out today I don't buy because it isn't good enough. Without mp3s you get no sale from me because how else am I supposed to know if I like the music? In a way it's good for artists. What about the little guys who don't care about making money and just wanna get heard even if it means they won't sell a cd? The record companies rob us blind by the way, 20 bucks for a cd and it costs them a quarter to print that cd.
i didnt read it all honestly but i do have an answer.

without legal digital downloads, they would lose since many people dont want a cd. they just want it in their ipod right then right now.

without illegal download, they would be infested in money haha
